Books for Baltimore is dedicated to fostering literacy, education, and community engagement in Baltimore by providing access to quality books and literacy programs. Our mission is to empower individuals of all ages to discover the joy of reading, expand their knowledge, and realize their full potential, thereby enriching the fabric of our city and creating a brighter future for generations to come.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
- Nelson Mandela
We are a not for profit organization with a mission of helping schools and students in local underserved communities. In our capacity as a public charity, we organize book drives and school supplies drives all around our community and bring what we collect to schools in need. In our capacity as a club of the Park School of Baltimore, we organize bi-weekly tutoring trips to Deer Park Elementary School. We were founded in the spring of 2023 and began our relationship with Deer Park Elementary at the beginning of the 2023 - 2024 school year. In the spring of 2024, we expanded and began working on becoming a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization so that we can better serve our community. Our group consists of a small leadership board and a large and passionate group of tutors.
Every season, we proudly organize a book drive to support underserved schools in the Baltimore region. These drives serve as a vital means to provide much-needed resources to students who may not have easy access to books. Your participation in our book drives not only helps us collect books but also contributes to fostering literacy and educational opportunities for countless children in our community. Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of these students and empower them to reach their full potential.
Every other Wednesday, the Books for Baltimore team journeys to Deer Park Elementary, where we eagerly lend a helping hand in the classrooms. From interactive reading sessions to personalized tutoring, we strive to enrich the educational experience for every student. Together with the dedicated teachers and staff, we're making a lasting impact on the lives of Deer Park's bright young minds.
“The students were so excited and couldn’t believe that they were FREE, and they could take whichever one they wanted. The smiles, excitement, and pure joy that the students exhibited were truly a blessing and warmed my heart”
— Katie Fridley (Assistant Principal at Deer Park Elementary)
